Each arm is narrow at the base and gets wider toward the tip (a reverse taper). The neck is 5 mm wide when closed. Because the tip is wider, the tool is less likely to slip during use, and its flat faces spread contact instead of pressing on a single point.

Each arm is 6 mm wide. The outer face that touches the skin is flat, with its corners rounded to R2 (a 2 mm radius). Instead of pressing along a single line like a round rod, it makes contact across a surface, so the same force is spread over a wider area.
